Gravitational lens,
Quasar stones

Aluminum frame, drawing, inkjet printing, aluminum deposition on polyimide film 421×595mm 2023

The first gravitational lens was discovered in the 1979 observation of a quasar. A gravitational lens is a natural telescope that distorts space due to the gravitational influence of massive galaxies, etc., and amplifies extremely weak light from 10 billion light years away. One light source is observed with several lights due to spatial distortion. Since each light is observed through a different path, there are cases where the same light source is observed at the same time with a time difference of several months. The Hubble Space Telescope, which has an exterior made of aluminum vapor deposition on polyimide film, has made many discoveries using gravitational lensing.
